    Great grouping tool
I used this to group instructors for a development activity it worked well bc they all assumed it was grouping by color and I used the shapes. You can group by color, shape, or number.

    Great Way to Group Kids
What a great resource! These are awesome to group students with or to even have students within a group pick and see who gets to go first. A classroom must have

    great for grouping

    Awesome!
I love these for grouping students. There are multiple methods to use, from color, shape, or number. This keeps the kids guessing as to which method you will choose. It has also reduced kids swapping pencils to be “with a certain person” because they do not know what method will be used to group. Awesome resource.

    Great for random groups
After seeing another teacher use these I had to get my own set. They work great for setting up random groups in my classroom.

    Engaging Teacher Tool!
I will use these terrific pencils the remainder of my years teaching. I had them in my cart forever here on Amazon and when some students gave me Amazon gift cards for an end-of-year gift, I finally clicked ADD to cart! :+)Just as others stated, you can group students by pencil color, the shape on the pencil or the number on the pencil. So kids can’t try to pick a certain pencil to be with friends since you announce the group they should find, AFTER they pick their pencils. They are as pictured, but I will say that my initial thought upon opening the container was that they seemed less substantial because they are plastic. They are not flimsy–not at all, but yes, plastic. I think I actually had wood in mind when I ordered b/c after all, they are “pencils”. Of course I made this up in my own mind b/c they are clearly described as plastic in the description. If I lost these- I would absolutely by them again!

    Love them!
These are exactly what I was looking for. Some days, I don’t need to group my students in a specific way. I just need to break them into random, small groups. And it’s good for the kids to work with different people, too! This ensures that my students get to work with new people every time I use them. The kids can just pick a pencil and I randomly decide if I’m grouping them by color, shape, or number!I think next year I might write their names in sharpie to use the pencils like popsicle sticks/have a little more control within their three groups. Every once in a while, the groups didn’t work well as randomly selected. It would be nice to be able to counter that by saying “Now find your shape group and discuss” or something to that effect. Expo marker over the sharpie erases the writing (just tested), so I can use them year after year with different student names! But that limits the kids to three groups. So I’m thinking I’ll have three purposefully selected groups but still allow the students to pull a random pencil regardless of the name, when it suits the activity.

    So fun
These are so fun and a great way to build community in bigger groups. I teach small group classes, so it wasn’t so great for that, but for staff meetings and bigger classes— I love it!

This product is advertised mostly for primary but I will be using in intermediate grade 4/5 split class for the first time this year.Love that there’s 3+ ways to make groups. Students can find all the reds, but to split off in to smaller groups, you can say “now all the even numbers in red will work together” or random other number combos or if you classify shapes in certain ways too …Looking forward to having less ‘headaches’ in constantly creating groups but also kids get a lot of anxiety about making their own groups too so this will help with that too, I think. There will still be some combos that might happen that aren’t the best but … learning opportunities, right? 😉

  12. Cliente Amazon
